A balanced set of skills

Written by: admin - Posted in: Career Tips

Searching for jobs requires a balanced set of skills. If you are excellent in one area but poor in all others, you may not end up in the jobs you want. When looking for jobs, it is important that you pay attention to how well you handle each area so that you can learn which skill sets you may need to work on.

Job searching and application

Searching for jobs and applying for them is the first step towards employment. At this stage you must focus on time management skills to spend as much time as you can on crafting excellent applications, as well as resume and cover letter development skills. One of the first concerns you should have is to order your resume in a way that it will look appealing on first view. Finding a resume design that people respond well to is a great step towards getting an interview. You can then be sure to tailor the specific details of the resume to appeal to each of the jobs that you apply for.

Interview skills

Good interview technique relies on preparation, calm and confidence. If you prepare yourself to answer all questions by knowing your professional abilities like the back of your hand, then you will merely need to remain calm and confident in order to look good in an interview. Be careful to be confident and not cocky, though, as overconfident individuals rarely appeal to employers. Also, dress appropriately to the occasion. It is a rare interviewer who will accept a pair of faded, old jeans as appropriate interview clothing.

Judgement

If you go into the interview and feel you may not enjoy the position you have applied for once you have found out more about it, then be ready to deny a job offer. If you have made an excellent impression in the interview and receive an offer, don’t just accept because you are excited about being offered a job. You don’t want to end up in jobs you dislike merely because you were too blinded by getting offered a job to remember that it was not for you. If you receive many job offers in a short period of time, it could be advantageous to compare them, just as you would compare credit cards before deciding on which one to go with. When dealing with such important aspects of your life as jobs and finances, it is important that you do not rush into things just because you are pleasantly surprised.

Plan applications for greater efficiency

Written by: admin - Posted in: Job News

When searching for jobs it can be a good idea to hold off on application until you have found a few jobs you would like to apply for. In a large enough group of jobs, you are likely to find employers wanting similar traits in an employee. By comparing listings for jobs so that you may find similarities you can save on time when tailoring resumes.

By identifying similar jobs, you can adjust your base resume to reflect the aspects those job ads share. It will then take less customisation per individual job, allowing you to spend more time and concentration coming up with the most enticing cover letter and resume changes. Read more…

Traditional Interview vs. Behavioral Interview
In a traditional interview, you will be asked a series of questions which typically have straight forward answers like “What are your strengths and weaknesses?” or “What major challenges and problems did you face? How did you handle them?” Read more…
