Questions You Should Ask Your Interviewer
A job interview is a two-way conversation. The potential employer is trying to find out if you’re a match to the position. As a job seeker, you should also be using this as an opportunity to assess whether the company and the position are a good fit for you.
Asking questions during a job interview also shows the interviewer that you are interested in the job or the company. When you do ask something, make sure it has not yet been thoroughly discussed during the span of the interview. Otherwise, it would reflect on your listening skills.
It is also advisable to veer away from subjects like salary, benefits and compensation packages during your first interview. Wait until these are raised by the interviewer or until you’re sure that you are being interviewed by the hiring manager.
Here are some questions you can ask your interviewer:
- Can you tell me more about the responsibilities of the position?
- How can you describe the company’s management style?
- Can you tell me a little bit more about the company’s culture?
- What kind of career opportunities can I expect in terms of advancement? Are there lateral or rotational moves available?
- Does the company offer training or education to employees?
- Does the company plan on expanding its current operations?
- Does the company have any major competitors in this market? What are the company’s strengths and weaknesses compared to them?
- Could you tell me more about the organizational structure?
- How does the company rank in its field?
- What will be the greatest challenge in this job?
