Plan applications for greater efficiency
When searching for jobs it can be a good idea to hold off on application until you have found a few jobs you would like to apply for. In a large enough group of jobs, you are likely to find employers wanting similar traits in an employee. By comparing listings for jobs so that you may find similarities you can save on time when tailoring resumes.
By identifying similar jobs, you can adjust your base resume to reflect the aspects those job ads share. It will then take less customisation per individual job, allowing you to spend more time and concentration coming up with the most enticing cover letter and resume changes. If you’re finding many new suitable jobs each day and would like to apply for them all, this could be a good way of optimising your chances despite a limited amount of time.
If some of the jobs you are considering applying for have online applications, you may want to scout out what these involve beforehand in case there are similarities in questions you must answer. Again, this will also allow you to spend a bit more time polishing your answers to give the best first impression.
