1.2 million Australian market by 2013 from Ford

Written by: parisalexandra - Posted in: Job Articles

CEO, Marin Burela, telling GoAuto those industry sales would reach 1.2 million within three years that Ford Australia will recover in the automotive industry.

Mr Burela said the global financial crisis had caused great upheaval, but the market had already sent signals that it was recovering.

“We kicked off the year, 2009, well up in at 900,000-915,000 units level (in annualised monthly figures), where in the previous November (2008), we were running at about 830, 000,” he said.

At the same time the year may not have been a boom period, Mr Burela said 2009 sales had been strong and 2010 would only be better. 2009, the industry will fall somewhere around 930,000 units. I think 2009 was a year of two halves. The first half was soft, the second half boomed; I think that (second half result) will start to flow through into 2010. In 2010, it will be a 930,000-plus figure, and we’ve been conservative throughout the planning.

The prospect of a first quarter slowdown – due to a pull-foward in the last quarter of 2009 because of the 50 per cent small business investment allowance – was not of concern for Ford.

“It’s okay for the first quarter to be softer; we have planned for it, we’re ready for it.” He added.

According to Mr Burela, beyond this hurdle lay the hope of a growth period.

Ballarat posties strikes

Written by: parisalexandra - Posted in: Job Articles

More than 30 Ballarat posties and eight Australia Post truck drivers walked off the job yesterday afternoon in a bid for better pay and conditions, with a small contingent manning a union picket line outside city’s mail centre in North Ballarat today. However that Australia post guaranteed Ballarat resident’s mail will be delivered as usual today, in spite of more than two-thirds of the city’s postal workers union.

Nadine Lyford spokeswoman of the Australian Post that the mail delivery will come today. ”All Ballarat mail will be delivered today but there have been effects on mail in Melbourne so there will be delays on any items going in and out of Melbourne,” she said.

The union demands a new workplace and a new agreement which protects penalty shifts, rosters and take-home pay. They also want improved workplace safety conditions. Ballarat Trades Hall secretary Paul Clempson said workers have been locked in an manufacturing argument with the mail provider since 2006.

The Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union is lobbying for a four per cent wage increase each year until 2012 and the protection of full-time postal worker positions in their new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.

Ms Lyford as she saw that employees chose to invoke their right to strike at the busiest time of the year and unfortunately disappointed on the organization.
