You will find a lot of job interview preparation material on the internet and even in this career blog. We will focus the succeeding articles on dissecting the intricacies of job interviews. From answering particular questions to preparing for the interview itself, we hope to guide you through your journey of finding the perfect job.

In this article, you will learn how to prepare for an interview by understanding the company. The Internet is one your best means of finding out more about the job you are applying for.

The following are tips to find out more about the company:

  • Check out the company’s website – most companies today strive to develop their online presence. They usually have a corporate site or even a product microsite. Visit these so you’d understand more about what kind of business the company is in. Whether you are applying as an accountant, a call center agent, a marketing personnel, you will find that most interviewers will ask if you know anything about their company.
  • Read the job ad carefully – Aside from providing information about the company, a job ad also gives you the details of what the company expects from its applicants.
  • Listen to the interviewer – If you are already in that situation where you were not able to do your research, the best you can do is listen to the interviewer. If you are unable share what you know about the company, be honest about it. Most interviewers are more than willing to share a bit of information about the company and the job.
  • Find out more about their needs – Get the interviewer to talk about the requirements of the position, this will clue you in on the current needs of the organization. Once you know what these are, use it to your advantage by weaving in your strengths as the possible solution to their problem.
  • Don’t forget names and titles – Aside from needing these in the future when you are called in for another interview, knowing the exact names of people may also play to your advantage during an interview.
